Introducing Atamela: An African Take on Caramel

Introducing Atamela: An African Take on Caramel

In the ever-expanding world of gourmands in perfumery, true caramel fragrances remain surprisingly rare. With Atamela, we sought to change that—boldly. But this is not the caramel of candy shops or syrupy desserts. This is caramel reimagined: infused with poached pear, rum-soaked warmth, and golden sweetness wrapped in the richness of spiced liqueur and soft sensuality. Atamela doesn’t shout. It leans in, and invites you to do the same.

A celebration of intimacy, Atamela explores the quiet power of nearness. Inspired by the soft warmth of stewed fruits, the cozy richness of aged rum, and the silky depth of caramel, this scent is an olfactive moment—like the gentle stillness of a winter evening wrapped in a cashmere blanket, or a quiet hour in your favorite café, where the air is thick with warmth, sweetness, and whispered connection.

Its name, Atamela, comes from the Sesotho word that means “come closer.” It’s a sentiment echoed in the fragrance itself: not loud or showy, but magnetic in its softness. This is a scent built for connection. For slow moments. For hands held—not grand gestures.

The Composition

Atamela is constructed with precision and restraint—just 22 ingredients come together to form its delicate, embracing structure. At its heart is a plush gourmand accord: caramel layered with Veramoss, ethyl maltol, and a soft base of tonka, vanilla, and spiced rum.

The fragrance opens with the boozy radiance of poached pear and rum—rich, warm, and just slightly flirtatious. This quickly gives way to a lush caramel core, softened by a whisper of golden liqueur and an ambered sweetness that feels both cozy and sensual. A velvety blend of woods and powdery musks lingers on the skin, leaving behind a trace that is soft, lasting, and intimate.

This is not a room-filling powerhouse. Atamela is quiet by design—lingering just close enough to be noticed by those who are near. A fragrance meant not to dominate, but to draw you in.

A Scent That Whispers

If Atamela were a song, it would be Atamela by PRESSS—whose lyrics inspired both the name and the soul of this fragrance. One line in particular captures its essence: “ke kopa ho tswara ka letsoho, atamela ke ho sebele” — “Can I please hold your hand? Come closer, let me whisper to you.”

This is the spirit of Atamela: a love letter to nearness. A bold reinterpretation of caramel, where poached pear and rum enrich its depth, whispering comfort and connection with every breath.

Atamela isn’t about standing out—it’s about staying close. And in that quiet nearness, it leaves something unforgettable: warmth, tenderness, and a sweetness that lingers long after the moment has passed.
